The Water Crisis

1 in 3 people (or 2.2 billion) people around the world lack safe drinking water.
More than 1/2 of the global population (or 3.8 billion) does not have access to safe sanitation.
3 out of 5 (or 3 billion) people do not have access to handwashing facilities with soap1.

How does the water crisis impact children?

“The consequences of unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) on children can be deadly. Over 700 children under age 5 die every day of diarrhoeal diseases due to lack of appropriate WASH services. In areas of conflict, children are nearly 20 times more likely to die from diarrhoeal disease than from the conflict itself.” - UNICEF

The water crisis is not solved for a child until all three problems are erased - safe water, sanitation, and handwashing with soap. Untapped Shores projects solve all three WASH problems to keep children safe long after our funding for a project ends.
